Nagasawa So-shun was born as the second son of Nagasawa Ujishun, a Living National Treasure and holder of an Intangible Cultural Property designated preservation technique in the Japanese Noh mask world. He is a holder of an Intangible Cultural Property designated preservation technique in the Japanese Noh mask world and serves as the chairman of the Noh Mask Study Group. He grew up watching Noh mask carving from childhood and became a Noh mask craftsman along with his older and younger brothers. While inheriting traditional techniques, he insists on hand-carving to accommodate subtle changes in the wood, choosing to carve masks as self-expression rather than solely as part of Nohgaku. His Noh masks possess artistic value, and his female masks, in particular, are highly praised for their expressions and coloring as the finest of the current generation.
