Yuki Tsumugi, a silk plain weave, is mainly produced in Yuki City, Ibaraki Prefecture, and Oyama City, Tochigi Prefecture. Yuki Chijimi was a crepe silk fabric that once boasted a production volume exceeding that of Yuki Tsumugi. The cool, smooth feel created by the tightly twisted yarn is perfect for single-layer garments and was highly valued. In the 1950s, when Yuki Tsumugi was designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property, the production shifted to Yuki Tsumugi, and today it is considered a rare phantom silk fabric.
We are offering this Yuki Chijimi because of the recent changes in the seasons and the comfortable feel it provides for both single-layer and lined garments.
There are two types of Yuki Chijimi: Honba Yuki Chijimi and Ishige Yuki Chijimi. This item is Ishige Yuki Chijimi.

While maintaining the light and warm feel of Yuki's unique hand-spun silk, the use of tightly twisted weft yarn and the process of jiire (pre-washing) creates fine wrinkles on the surface, resulting in a smooth texture.
