Features of the British Army Mk. IV Gas Mask
Historical Context:
Mass-produced and deployed during World War II (around 1940-1945).
Components: Main body (rubber), canister, carrying bag.
Condition: Due to over 70 years of age, plastic degradation of the lens and hardening of the rubber are often observed.

Gas Mask Body (Mk. IV Facepiece): A rubber mask covered with fabric (stockinette) on the surface, characterized by round lens eyepieces and a speech diaphragm in the center that also functions as an exhaust valve.
Filter (Type E Canister): The brick-red (reddish-brown) square can visible in the image is the Type E Mk. VI filter, introduced around 1940.
While early models were khaki or tan, this distinctive reddish-brown paint became common with improvements.
Bag (Mk. VII Haversack): The canvas bag behind it is a gas mask bag (haversack) such as the Mk. V or Mk. VII.
The Mk. VII bag, in particular, is known for being the basis for the satchel bag famously used by the protagonist in the Indiana Jones film series.
Accessories: The small yellow cylindrical object visible below the right side of the mask is a container for anti-dimming compound to prevent lens fogging.
*While there is some damage due to age (rubber straps, etc.), the condition is good for an item over 80 years old.
*The item includes everything shown in the photos.
Please refrain from purchasing if you are sensitive to condition.
