Vintage India Elephant Head Hinged 7 1/2" Bangle With Screw-Pin Closure
This item is a vintage Indian Gaja Mukhi (elephant head) hinged bangle featuring a dual-terminal design and a removable screw-pin closure. It is a traditional style of Kada typically crafted in regions like Rajasthan, India. Material Composition The Body: The smooth, cream-colored main loop exhibits an organic texture. These vintage mid-century bangles are typically constructed from bovine (ox/cow) bone or ethically sourced buffalo horn. Authentic antique variations may occasionally utilize natural elephant ivory. The Metalwork: The stylized elephant head finials and matching bottom hinge are generally made of brass, sterling silver, or German silver (an alloy of copper, nickel, and zinc) featuring an oxidized, antique finish to emphasize the decorative engravings. Mechanism and Functionality Bottom Hinge: Allows the rigid material of the bangle to flex open cleanly without cracking. Screw Clasp: The loose metal component shown in the center is a threaded pin. To secure the bracelet on your wrist, you bring the two elephant trunks together, align the small metal loops, insert the pin from the top, and screw it down clockwise to lock it in place. I personally do not have the equipment to test what components are in the bangle. I personally know the previous owner and I was told it is old.
