Taiwanese Folk Craft Ramie Back Carrier Paiwan Tribe
This woven bag was previously purchased at an antique shop in Niigata Prefecture.
The material is likely hemp or ramie.
While the exact history is unknown, the shop owner suggested it might have been brought back from the region during wartime.
The remarkably beautiful weave is wonderful even just for display.
One side has a marking of ①, or the katakana character ト, written in ink.
