The current Kiyomitsu-do Kogei Co., Ltd. began when the founder, Kiroku, started a casting business in the late Edo period in Yamagata City, Do-cho, a city where casting was flourishing.
Since then, the technology has been passed down through generations. The sixth generation, Tokutaro, who specialized in Hanehiro teapots, named the business Kiyomitsu-do.
The seventh generation, Zentaro, gained fame for his tea kettle and teapot production, receiving high praise.
After the war, the eighth generation, Kiyomitsu, laid the foundation for the current Kiyomitsu-do as a specialized workshop for tea kettles, utilizing his exceptional skills and innate artistic talent.
Currently, the ninth generation, Okomitsu, and the tenth generation, Takumi, carry on their ancestors' legacy, operating as a specialized workshop for tea kettles and teapots filled with the beauty of utility.
Tea ceremony, representing Japan's traditional culture.
As the act of holding a tea ceremony is referred to as hanging the kettle, the tea kettle is a tool given an unshakeable position in the tea room.
Due to its presence, the kettle is said to act as a proxy for the host in the room, and even when the host leaves the room, it remains in the hearth to entertain the guests.
