Vintage Japanese Sumida Gawa Style Figural Pottery Pitcher 6 Mugs 7pc Set  Exceptional vintage Japanese art pottery beverage set featuring 1 tall pitcher and 6 matching handled mugs. The pottery has a striking ribbed burnt-orange body contrasted by a deep black, cream and gray-green flowing glaze.  The most distinctive feature is the hand-applied three-dimensional figural decoration. The small figures appear to depict people/children in traditional-style clothing engaged in various activities. Because the exact subjects and maker have not been conclusively identified, they are described conservatively rather than attributed as monkeys.  The dramatic glaze, textured body and applied relief figures are strongly reminiscent of collectible Sumida Gawa / Sumida-style Japanese pottery.  Bases stamped MADE IN JAPAN.
