Paper Tiger, Hariko, Akabeko, Folk Toy, Antique, Vintage, Showa Retro
This is a tiger daruma, also known as Akabeko, that was found while organizing my parents' home.
It is also called Osaka Hariko.
It has been displayed in a glass case for many years.
The Akabeko is also being listed separately at the same time.
It is displayed as a lucky charm to ward off illness, pray for lasting good fortune in battle, and wish for the healthy growth of boys.
The tiger is said to travel a thousand miles in a day and return in a day, and is believed to ward off all calamities with its strong vitality.
It is made using a simple method of combining Japanese paper with boiled flour paste, then removing the mold and painting it once dry.
Please refrain from purchasing if you do not understand or are sensitive about antiques and vintage items.
