VTG Tohono O'odham Papago Native American Handled Coiled Basket Southwest Desert

Beautiful, authentic vintage Tohono O'odham (formerly Papago) hand-coiled basket featuring a striking geometric zig-zag motif. Handcrafted in the Southwest (Arizona/Sonoran Desert region) by a master tribal weaver, likely dating to the mid-to-late 20th century. The dynamic stepped pattern represents rainclouds and lightning, historically woven as a symbolic prayer for rain in the arid desert. *Fibers: Hand-harvested natural desert yucca leaves (cream/light tan) and highly durable devil’s claw seed pods (dark brown/black). *Weave: Tight, authentic coiled split-stitch technique wrapped over a flexible internal bundle foundation. *Handle: A beautifully executed, continuous wrapped handle that loops seamlessly under the base of the basket for structural strength. Excellent vintage structural condition. The handle anchors, rim, and base are 100% intact with zero missing stitches or unraveling rows. Shows minor, beautiful natural surface-level fiber scaling/patina on the walls, which is perfectly standard and highly desirable for authentic aged desert plant fibers. Please see all photos for details. This is a gorgeous piece of Native American history and a perfect addition to any Southwestern, Southwestern Boho, or eclectic home decor collection. #NativeAmerican #TohonoOodham #SouthwestDecor #VintageBasket #HandWoven #BohoDecor #TribalArt #PapagoBasket #CoiledBasket #ArtisanMade #MidCenturyVintage #DesertStyle #HomeDecor
