Barn Owl

Type of painting... Colored pencil drawing

Subject... Bird
Main materials... Colored pencils

I drew a barn owl, Menfukurou, wearing a mask-like face, with colored pencils.

M: Owls are very auspicious birds, written as 'fukurou' (不苦労 - no hardship) or 'fukurou' (福労 - blessed labor). Barn owls are named 'Menfukurou' because they look like they're wearing a mask.

R: Wow, really?

M: And if you look closely, their faces are heart-shaped.

R: Hmm, I can see that now.
