Scheurich 285-23 Amsterdam Blue Ceramic Onion Vase MCM Fat Lava West Germany 70s

Beautiful vintage West German pottery vase produced by the manufacturer Scheurich Keramik.   This iconic design is officially named the “Amsterdam series (widely known among collectors as the Onion pattern), which dates back to the 1960s and 1970s.  The deep blue satin glaze emphasizes the relief pattern, which was originally inspired by the way the historic canal arches of Amsterdam reflect in the water.  Matte brown or white glazes are more common thus marking this vase as a rare collectible find.   The base is stamped with 285-23; the first three numbers indicate the design mold shape and the last two digits specify the height in centimeters (23cm).   This vase is a medium cabinet size (23cm / ~ 9 inches tall) and is in good vintage condition. There is a fine web of age-related crazing on some areas, a small chip on bottom, and a few popped glaze bubbles at time of manufacture.
