Vintage Primitive Wooden Duck Decoy Pascagoula Associated Folk Art 17"

Vintage primitive wooden duck decoy with a heavily textured carved surface, aged brown finish, separate carved head, inset eyes, and substantial rustic character. An older handwritten slip attached to the underside reads Pascagoula. Because Pascagoula, Mississippi has a long history of wooden decoy production, this may be of interest to collectors of Southern sporting and folk art. Exact maker, date, and origin have not been confirmed. Piece is being offered as Pascagoula-associated rather than a specific maker or factory. The body has pronounced tool or carving marks throughout, giving it a wonderfully rough, hand-worked appearance. Surface wear and age-related marks are present throughout and contribute to its primitive character.
