Meibutsu-gire (famous textile) is a general term for particularly excellent dyed and woven fabrics (such as brocade, satin, and stripes) that were brought from China during the Kamakura and early Edo periods. With the spread of the tea ceremony, these fabrics were highly prized for use as pouches for famous tea utensils and for scroll mounting, and are high-quality textiles known by unique names (e.g., Juko-donusu, Keito-kinran).
