Nanbu Tekki HIKIFUNE TETSUBIN Cast Iron JAPANESE KETTLE / Orange-Red / SOME WEAR
Iwate
I am not sure which foundry cast this kettle or just how old it is. A tetsubin is a traditional Japanese cast-iron kettle designed exclusively for boiling water, not for steeping tea. The interior is bare and enriches water with iron, softening its taste. The best kettles come from the Iwate Prefecture in northern Japan. Hikifune (tugboat) refers to the low, elongated shape which is quite stylish. The kettle measures 8.25 inches long by 5.75 inches wide by 5.75 inches tall. It is in very good condition except for some use wear to the lid and bottom (see photos).
