Iron Tachi-maru-mon Tsuba, Signed Yamayoshihei, Vertical File Marks, Lead-filled Nakago-ana
This is a signed piece by Yamayoshihei.
The inscription Yamayoshihei is said to have originated with Yamasakiyoshihei. First is considered to have served Oda Nobunaga and is a representative Tsuba craftsman of Owari, alongside Hoan.
This is a well-forged Tsuba that produces a very clear ringing sound. As he was originally an armor craftsman, the construction is extremely robust and emphasizes practicality.
The small openwork, resembling a tortoise-shell pattern surrounded by curves, is truly elegant. The vertical file marks also have a natural feel.
There are some signs of age-related rust and dirt, but it has an antique charm and is in good condition. Please check the images.
