Type: Iai-giri sword. This is a custom-made item ordered from a specialty store in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture.
Iai-giri sword: Replica of Izumi-no-kami Kanesada
Izumi-no-kami Kanesada also forged straight temper lines, choji, and choji yahalare. Kanesada was unusual among ancient swordsmiths in that he received an official title (Izumi-no-kami) and inscribed (Izumi-no-kami Kanesada) on the tang of his swords. He was the most skilled of the Seki swordsmiths, with a style similar to Naoe Shizu and Soshu swords.
He was even more outstanding than the famous Seki no Magoroku (Kanemoto) and was in no way inferior. Izumi-no-kami Kanesada was a renowned swordsmith also known as a master craftsman of great sharpness.
This particular sword, unusually for an iai-giri practice sword, features a yahalare temper line.
The name comes from the nock of an arrow. If you look closely at this sword,
you can see small, vertical thread-like patterns appearing and disappearing within the yahalare.
The fittings are unified in black throughout,
creating a powerful and imposing atmosphere.
The koiguchi (mouth of the scabbard) also has reinforcing metal fittings.
This sword is recommended for experienced iai practitioners or collectors.
